Tribal License
The passage of Senate Bill 1455 (Ashby, 2024) authorized CSLB to issue contractor licenses to federally recognized tribes.
A tribal business can be verified by submitting any one of the following three documents along with the application.
- A resolution that ratifies the charter for this tribal business under federal law (“IRA Section 17 corporation”).
- A resolution authorizing this tribal corporation under tribal laws (“tribally chartered corporation”).
- Articles of incorporation or by-laws for this tribal corporation.
Below are some primary requirements for and components of Tribal Business licenses.
Qualifying Individual
Tribal licenses must be qualified responsible managing employee (RME), responsible managing officer (RMO).
Bond of Qualifying Individual
Federally recognized tribes or participating tribes are exempt from carrying a Bond of Qualifying Individual.
Joint Venture Licenses
A Tribal Business may be listed as an entity on a joint venture license.
Other Requirements
Most other requirements and provisions that apply to corporate licenses also will apply to Tribal Businesses.
