A recent advisory from the National Institute for Occupational Health (NIOSH) calls for measures on jobsites to protect workers from erionite. Erionite is a cancer-causing mineral similar to asbestos, present in the western United States.
Like asbestos, it has been shown to cause mesothelioma in road construction workers. NIOSH recommends that precautions be taken to protect workers in areas where erionite might be present. These measures would be similar to those taken to prevent asbestos exposure.
The revised and updated Asbestos: A Contractor's Guide and Open Book Examination
is now available on CSLB's website. All applicants for an original contractor license are required to complete the exam,
per section 7058.5(b) of the Business and Professions Code, and
submit it to CSLB
by mail.
