Contractors State License Board Reopening Public Counters July 1st
All public counters closed since March due to COVID-19 health emergency will open
SACRAMENTO - The Contractors State License Board (CSLB) will reopen public counters to licensees, applicants, and others on Wednesday, July 1, 2020. The public counters were closed March 23, 2020 to help limit the spread of COVID-19. Seven of CSLB's eight test centers, which also closed in March, reopened earlier this month. The first-floor public counter at CSLB's headquarters in Sacramento, and field offices in Norwalk, Fresno, San Bernardino, and San Diego, will be open from 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. As a reminder, face coverings will be required to enter all CSLB facilities. Public counter staff answer questions about licensure and completing applications, accept all documents pertaining to licensure, such as bonds, workers' compensation, and renewals, and handle all cash payments.
CSLB is taking precautions to make sure that public counters and lobby areas are safe for the public and for staff. These preventative steps include:
- Face coverings. Members of the public are required to wear face coverings in indoor public spaces as indicated by the Governor's Office. Face coverings will not be provided by CSLB.
- Physical distancing measures. Floor markings have been placed in public counter and lobby areas to ensure all individuals waiting for service maintain a six-foot distance from one another. The Sacramento public counter will operate alternating windows to ensure that staff always remain six feet apart.
- Careful contact when handling payment. When staff must handle cash, checks, or other paperwork from the public, they may wear disposable gloves.
Before heading to one of CSLB's public counters, licensees should remember that many services are available online through CSLB's website (https://cslb.ca.gov/OnlineService.aspx ). This includes renewing a license. There are also resources available to maintain and make changes to licenses. The website also provides popular forms and allows licensees to submit workers' compensation information. On the home page, the search bar will help you find topics regarding your license.
