Effective January 1, 2004, Home Improvement Certification (HIC) is no longer required. Legislation that created the HIC program sunset on this date. All of the information contained in the HIC exam is incorporated into the law portion of the Contractors License Exam, so it is no longer necessary to obtain the separate certification.
